RESOLUTION ON RESPONSIBILITIES IN PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

WHEREAS, the educational mission of the University of North Carolina system is promoted by mutual trust and respect; in professional relationships; and

WHEREAS, only by upholding high standards of professional conduct will the personnel of the University of North Carolina system be able to meet their collective obligations; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Faculty Assembly of the University of North Carolina endorse the following: While faculty are encouraged to foster wholesome and appropriate relationships with colleagues, students and staff, it is irresponsible and professionally unethical for an individual to exercise direct supervisory, instructional or advising responsibilities or to participate in hiring, retention, promotion or award decisions for someone with whom there is a familial, romantic or sexual relationship.
