RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE POLICY ON ACADEMIC FREEDOM AND TENURE IN THE CODE OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA

WHEREAS, The principles of Academic Freedom continue to be essential to the vitality and excellence of the University of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, The Code of the Board of Governors supports and encourages full freedom within the law, of inquiry, discourse, teaching, reserch and publication for all members of the acedemic staffs; and

WHEREAS, The conferral of tenure on faculty members who achieve the highest standards of excellence provides the continued assurance of academic freedom essential to the pursuit and dessemination of knowledge; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Faculty Assembly strongly support the existing principles on Academic Freedom and Tenure in The Code of the Board of Governors as being necessary and critical to the excellence of the University of North Carolina.
